Bali Airport to Tanah Lot: Iconic Sea Temple Transfer 2026

Direct transfer to Bali’s most famous sunset temple — Tanah Lot, perched dramatically on a rocky ocean outcrop along the Tabanan coast.

How do I get from Bali airport to Tanah Lot?

The drive from Bali airport to Tanah Lot takes approximately 45-75 minutes covering 30-35 km via the Denpasar bypass road. A private transfer costs from IDR 350,000 (USD $22). Tanah Lot is Bali’s most visited temple, a 16th-century Hindu shrine built on a rock formation in the sea. The temple is best visited at sunset (5:00-6:30 PM) when the silhouette against the orange sky creates Bali’s most iconic image.

Getting to Tanah Lot from the Airport

Tanah Lot is one of the most accessible major attractions from Ngurah Rai Airport, located just 30-35 kilometers northwest via the Denpasar bypass road. The drive takes 45-75 minutes depending on traffic, making it feasible as either a stop during your airport transfer to hotels in the Canggu/Tabanan area, or as a dedicated trip from the airport.

The route follows: Airport → Denpasar bypass → Kediri → Tanah Lot. For travelers staying in Canggu (20 minutes from Tanah Lot) or Seminyak (35 minutes), we can incorporate a Tanah Lot sunset stop into your airport transfer at no additional charge — arriving at the temple for sunset, then continuing to your hotel afterward.

This is one of our most popular transfer add-ons, particularly for travelers arriving on afternoon flights. Instead of going directly to your hotel, experience Bali’s most iconic sunset moment within hours of landing.

About Tanah Lot Temple

Tanah Lot (meaning “Land in the Sea”) is a ancient Hindu temple perched on a rock formation just offshore. Built in the 16th century by the Javanese sage Dang Hyang Nirartha, it’s one of seven sea temples forming a chain along Bali’s southwestern coast, each visible from the next, forming a spiritual connection along the coastline.

At high tide, the temple appears to float on the ocean — only accessible by walking across the rock at low tide. Regardless of tide conditions, the temple complex and surrounding area offer spectacular views. The cliff-top gardens above the temple provide the classic sunset vantage point that graces millions of Bali postcards and Instagram posts.

The temple complex includes several shrines, cultural park areas, a small cave with holy water springs and sea snakes (considered guardians of the temple), and a commercial area with restaurants, shops, and galleries. Entry fee: IDR 60,000 for international visitors.

Best Time to Visit

Sunset (4:30-6:30 PM): The iconic experience. Arrive by 4:30 PM to explore the grounds before finding your sunset viewing spot. The sky transforms through gold, orange, and purple as the temple silhouette darkens. This is Bali’s most photographed moment.

Morning (8:00-10:00 AM): Far fewer visitors, softer light for photography, and the ability to explore at your pace. The temple is equally beautiful in morning light, though the iconic sunset silhouette is obviously absent.

Low Tide: When the tide is out, you can walk across the rock to the base of the temple (non-Hindu visitors cannot enter the temple itself). Check tide charts to time your visit — low tide combined with sunset is the ultimate combination.
